The IQA is excited to announce the city finalists for the 2014-2015 event season, which include the cities of Austin, Texas, North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Rock Hill, S.C. for the 2015 World Cup championship event. The IQA will visit these sites, as well as the city finalists for regional championships and QuidCon, over the next month to review the facilities and event details with the potential hosts. Event hosts will be announced mid-May.
This year the IQA received 29 bids for 8 events, including World Cup, QuidCon, and the six United States regional championships: a number that almost doubles last year’s 16 total bids. The IQA evaluated host offers based on the location of the bid, the amount of financial support (both cash and in-kind), the quality of facilities, and the level of community support. Each of the bid packages of the event finalists listed below surpassed IQA bid requirements and expectations in at least one of these categories. Further explanation of the bid process can be found on the IQA event bidding page.
The IQA has not yet received bids for Global Games 2016, the IQA Open, or for the Canadian, European, or Oceania regional championships. IQA staff will continue working with teams and interested cities in these regions to secure quality bids in a timely manner, and the IQA will solicit bids for Global Games 2016 again during its bid process this fall. In addition to the number of bids received, the IQA was excited to generate interest among potential future host cities, including the City of San Diego, which did not submit a bid this year.
Teams are reminded that the Stay & Play policy will apply to all teams competing in all North American regional championships and the World Cup. The policy has been slightly modified for the upcoming season in order to clarify team location and address information as it applies to the policy.
