The IQA is pleased to announce that Jennifer Tran has been selected as the new South Regional Director.
As teams from around the world gear up for World Cup VII in North Myrtle Beach, S.C., the South is looking to prove it can win it all, and newly appointed South Regional Director Jennifer Tran hopes to unite the region around this common goal.
“I want the South to show up to World Cup VII as a strong, united front that's propelled by interstate friendships and support,” Tran said.
Tran started playing quidditch in 2011. After hitting a rough spot in her personal life, she turned to the series she knew and loved for comfort: Harry Potter.
“During a reread of the quidditch world cup, I was inspired to form a team,” Tran said. “It was the best of both worlds: bringing my childhood dream to life while exercising and getting healthier.”
Tran’s inspiration became a reality when she moved to Alabama and started the University of South Alabama (USA) Quidditch team. Currently entering its third year, Tran hopes to lead the team to a world cup bid.
In addition to her experience as a founder and captain, Tran also has previous experience working as an IQA staffer. She has held the positions of Alabama state representative and South expansion representative.
"Jen Tran has long been a dedicated member of the regional team in the South. Her drive, vision, and proven abilities make her exactly the director the region needs right now,” said Harrison Homel, IQA teams director. “I am honored to have the opportunity to work more directly with her, and am incredibly excited to see what she can do in this new role."
Tran hopes to use her previous experience and connections within her region to take the South regional director position to the next level, but she acknowledges it will not be an easy task.
“It’s an extremely daunting position considering how strong and proud certain parts of the region are,” she said. “It’s a great thing, but my goal is to aid the rest of the region to be just as proud of themselves.”
Tran has been appointed in the stead of previous regional director Lindsay Fussell. She will be responsible for representing the region in the IQA’s teams department. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the future of the South, you can drop her an email at .
